Purpose

  • To assist with the Government Mandate in Educating the Public in all official languages and on all Radio and digital platforms, thereby ensuring compliance to government regulations.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Media Studies, or equivalent qualification (NQF6 Level).
  • Post-graduate degree / diploma in Education or relevant area.
  • 4 years’ experience in the Radio production environment of which 2 years should be on supervisory level.

Skills & Competencies

  • Sound knowledge of Education principles and challenges.
  • Extensive knowledge of South Africa’s current development priorities.
  • Good understanding of SABC production values and programming value chain.
  • Sound knowledge of Legislative frameworks which guides implementation of various Education formats.
  • Solid understanding of radio programming and delivery of Educational content across multiple broadcasting platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure delivery of high quality educational programmes that are relevant to target audiences and comply with the SABC editorial policies and broadcasters code of conduct on PBS radio stations and digital platforms.
  • Organize resources, provide station teams with clear briefs, and guide them towards successful implementation of projects.
  • Contribute to compilation and co-ordination of Education budgets.
  • Inform station programme managers about contracting and commissioning processes to allow for a smooth roll out of the approved implementation plans according to agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Compile production and broadcast plans and reports.
  • Evaluate proposals and support producers during implementation of approved concepts and briefs.
  • Develop and maintain good relations with internal and external stakeholders including sponsors, clients and project partners.
  • Ensure stakeholder and sponsorship commitments are met.
  • Ensure quality control for all outsourced and internally produced education material in accordance with approved briefs.
  • Ensure flow of information between sponsors and radio stations.
  • Engage Programmes Managers to determine the success and impact of programmes through regular feedback on content delivery, execution, ratings and audience share with Radio Management.
  • Attend all production/planning meetings with clients/stakeholders on behalf of SABC Radio.
  • Provide monthly project status and progress reports to clients and Radio Management.
  • Develop and monitor project implementation plans, delivery schedules and SOPs in line with approved project briefs.
  • Direct and co-ordinate briefing sessions between clients, stakeholders and Radio personnel (including ICs) in the provinces.
  • Regularly source feedback on content delivery, programme performance and audience share recommendations with Station and Radio Management.
  • Monitor programme delivery to ensure editorial control of projects on behalf of the SABC.
  • Monitor and report on delivery of all funded programmes.
  • Monitor and report on the operational risk and compliance matters.
  • Implement internal control measures to ensure good governance.
  • Manage financial risks to protect organisational integrity, create value, prevent financial loss and ensure compliance with applicable policies and legislations.
  • Implement execution internal risk audits identified and address gaps.
  • Maintain good relations with internal and external stakeholders including sponsors, the public, clients and project partners.
  • Ensure all stakeholders participate in production planning.
  • Provide all stakeholders with regular feedback on Education programme performance.
  • Ensure stakeholder and sponsorship commitments are met.
  • Guide station teams and provide clear directions on projects delivery and other expectations.
  • Organise required resources and steer the provincial teams towards successful project implementation.
  • Adhere to Performance Management System in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Effective briefing and communication with the Education teams and Station Management (including Senior Producers for Mandate at stations).
