The U.S. Virgin Islands Wants to Pay You $300 to Vacation There in 201

The U.S. Virgin Islands will commemorate its Centennial in 2017, marking 100 years since the transfer of the islands to United States. The Territory is hosting events and activities, including parades, concerts and festivals featuring local food, art, dance and music.

Need an excuse to travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands?

This year, the U.S. Virgin Islands is giving you a major one. March 31st, 2017, marks the 100th anniversary of the United States purchasing the islands from Denmark - also known as Transfer Day. To celebrate, the USVI is offering a special Centennial package and, as part of the promotion, they'll give you a $300 spending credit with a stay of more than three consecutive nights on St. Thomas, St. John or St. Croix. Also, travelers who visit during March will receive a commemorative souvenir to honor Transfer Day. But don't expect to be handed 300 big ones to use as you please. You'll receive a voucher that can be redeemed at your hotel for special historical tours and cultural activities. The goal is to get you to leave your beach chair and get out to explore the islands.

There has to be a catch, right?

For one, you need to plan and book your trip before October 1st, 2017, as well as travel within the 2017 calendar year. You're also required to stay at one of the participating hotels on any of the three islands. Don't worry though, there are plenty that we would recommend, like Bolongo Bay Beach Resort on St. Thomas and The Buccaneer on St. Croix.
How to Book

To take advantage of the promotion, book your trip through the USVI tourism website. In addition, visit vitransfercentennial.org for more information about programs and events happing throughout the year. Keep in mind that winter is the Caribbean's high season, so prices will begin to fall after March. When you visit, don't forget to tag your Instagram photos with #SurroundMeWithWater for a chance to be featured on our website.
